SAVMA Scholarships

Tufts SCAVMA Travel Grant

The Tufts SCAVMA Travel and Externship Grant is funded by the Tufts Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

This year we will be holding two travel grant application cycles. You may apply for funding for veterinary-related and professional travel completed in the past 12 months or anticipated for the next 12 months. We will hold an application cycles in the fall and spring semester. Applications are assessed by the below rubric:

  1. Relevant to SCAVMA’s core mission of professional development.
  2. Similar experiences are not available locally.
  3. Application well-written and complete
  4. Reasonable budget.
  5. Other sources of funding are not available or minimal.

The scholarship is awarded to deserving SCAVMA members who demonstrate a strong desire to do veterinary school-related travel during their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of school.

This grant is made possible by support from the AVMA, PLIT, and GHLIT who graciously fund the ALL (Achieving, Leading, Learning) for Students program, which allows us to spend more money on you in the areas of wellness, professional development, and leadership :). AVMF Veterinary and Winn Feline Scholarships

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation awards scholarships to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students attending accredited colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States. In addition to the AVMF scholarships, one applicant will be selected to receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Winn Feline Foundation. This award will be given to a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student who demonstrates a keen interest in cats.

Integrative Communications and Diversity Committee (ICDC) Awards

Communicating the Diversity in Veterinary Medicine Grant

Up to four PR grants, totaling $2,500 are awarded to student groups completing projects that promote the veterinary medical profession to the public or provide outreach to the community. Up to four grants will be awarded shortly after the 2014 SAVMA Symposium.

Cultural Diversity Awareness Grant

Up to two grants totaling $1500 will be awarded at the AVMA Convention in 2015.

Education and Professional Development Committee (EPDC) Awards

Economics Issue Essay Contest

Two prizes of $250 are offered for the best essays describing how an economic issue that affects veterinary students or the veterinary profession as a whole – be sure to propose a solution to how this issue might be resolved. Application to be released November 3, 2014.

SAVMA Symposium & AVMA Convention Travel Grant

Grants will be offered for students to attend the annual SAVMA Symposium and AVMA Convention. Applications to be released in November 2014 and January 2015 respectively.

Extracurricular Funding Grant

This grant is offered to provide veterinary student organizations funding for wet labs or lectures. Three $250 grants are awarded in each fall and spring term. Application for the fall cycle are to be released on September 8, 2014.

Policy Awareness Grant

An award intended to fund policy-related lectures or events supplementing the college’s curriculum.

Animal Welfare/Human-Animal Bond Committee Awards

Animal Welfare/Human-Animal Bond Project Grant

Seven $500 grants are offered to schools or community organizations to support projects that benefit animal welfare or the human-animal bond.

Commitment to Animal Welfare and the Human Animal Bond Award

$250 awards are provided to four veterinary students who demostrate exemplary service in promoting animal welfare or the human-animal bond.

Public Health and Community Outreach Committee Awards

Disaster Preparedness Grant

A grant to sponsor a club that is interested in hosting a disaster preparedness course at their school.

Eight $500 stipends are awarded to veterinary students completing externships in underserved areas.

International Veterinary Exchange Committee (IVEC) Awards

International Veterinary Student Association (IVSA) Chapter Award

A $500 award is offered to a IVSA school chapter that best exemplifies the mission of IVEC.

International Exchange Scholarship

Three $500 scholarships are awarded to students who express a strong desire to complete a veterinary-related international exchange.

The Vet Gazette Prizes

The Vet Gazette, the official journal of the Student AVMA, awards prizes for content submitted in the categories Forum, Life As a Vet Student, Trivia, Creative Corner, Experiences, and Foot in Mouth Disease. The best submission in each category will receive $100; honorable mention recipients are awarded $20 each. In addition, the overall best submission will receive an additional $100 and the SAVMA chapter with the most submissions will receive $200. For more information, check out The Vet Gazette.
