The school has a newly named Office of Faculty Affairs, with Dr. Susan Pasquale as its Director. This step takes advantage of Dr. Pasquale’s experience in faculty affairs, education and faculty development.
The Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is committed to facilitating the success and academic advancement of its faculty. The Office supports the recruitment, appointment, promotion, and retention of a faculty that demonstrates excellence in teaching, research, and service. It does so through creating and sustaining a culture that promotes faculty vitality and diversity to enable faculty to achieve their goals as educators, researchers and clinicians. The Office provides comprehensive resources and guidance to support faculty throughout the academic lifecycle, from recruitment, to onboarding through to retirement, and is committed to enhancing the professional development and academic advancement of its faculty.
The OFA serves as a central resource for faculty seeking to advance in academic rank and navigate career advancement by providing professional development consultations and programs, including those that help faculty understand and prepare for the promotion process, and strengthen their teaching and educational research. The OFA works with department chairs and the Appointments and Promotions Committee to strengthen the process of promotion in academic rank; and serves a resource source for the policies and procedures of faculty appointment, endowed professorships, emeritus faculty, and leaves of absence. Additionally, the OFA provides consultation to faculty search committees on processes and policies of faculty recruitment, including unconscious bias and diversity.
As a central resource for information about faculty, the OFA manages and maintains comprehensive faculty databases, and produces data for a spectrum of reports and queries required by accrediting bodies and university and school offices. It also reviews, manages and maintains governance and policy documents, and supports the work of faculty governance and committees. In addition, it manages faculty leaves of absence, institutional licensure of faculty, and serves as a liaison with University offices regarding a variety of faculty matters.
