The New England Regional Biosafety Laboratory is a regional resource that will allow researchers to improve human health through better detection, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. More information about the special functions of the RBL can be found on the following pages:

The RBL, as part of Tufts University and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine offers access to experienced investigators with expertise in:

  • In vitro assays, assay and animal model development
  • BSL-3 and Select Agent pathogens
  • Study design and protocol development
  • Regulatory (Select Agent, GLP, IND, DOD BSAT)

The RBL includes laboratories for study of biosafety level 2 and 3 agents, including select agents. In addition to BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory suites, the facility also features an ABSL-3 vivarium, aerobiology suite, and insectary.
