Students will learn the fundamentals of dialysis and serve assistant dialysis technicians. The dialysis service will demonstrate machine setup and breakdown and technique of performing dialysis. Students will be on call to assist in any dialysis cases that come in. We typically perform up to 30 cases a year ( many patients though receive multiple dialysis sessions). Students will demonstrate that they can set the machine up for performing a treatment and then sign up for on call shifts to help with cases. To receive credit for the rotation : need to set up the machine 3 times and sign up for on call shifts ( at least 4 shifts) might not get called in depends on the case variation You will learn monitoring techniques, catheter placement, stringsoft and good nursing practices as well as about AKI and hemodialysis and therapeutic plasma exchange
